Fishing Like There’s No Tomorrow!

Chinook salmon has been at its best in the last couple weeks.. The fishing has been phenomenal. Some of our catch has been close to 25 lbs! With almost summer-like conditions, it’s a great time to come out with us on the water and get the true west coast experience.

We’ve had a few very successful multi-day trips out off the South End of Bowen Island and in the Gulf Island’s.

As we progress into June, our local fishery will transition around the middle of the month, and we will likely start to search out in the deeper water for schools of coho salmon. Last year, in June and early July, there were some excellent numbers of coho salmon off the South End of Bowen Island and off the East Side of Gabriola Island. We are currently open for two hatchery coho salmon per day.

Close to flat clam, these conditions allowed us to fish north of Bowen Island. This 20 pound Chinook was one of eight that we caught on a short trip out last week.

For chinook and early coho, spoons like the G Force 3 or Silver Horde 3 in the Irish cream or herring aid patterns are often the better choices. For chinook salmon we have been running anchovies rigs with clear teaser heads paired with a glow flasher.

Fantastic family from Texas, who came out with us during the weekend. We experienced superb fishing off Bowen Island and there was also abundant amount of Dungeness crab.

The Gulf Island’s are open to the retention of coho salmon (hatchery only). Locally we have a good coho fishery at the moment and chinook fishing will open up in a few weeks for retention. If the weather agrees, the Gulf Island trips are often a very good bet in June, July and into the first week of August.

The Bites is always ON!.
