Coho Salmon has arrived, and It is Open for Retention.

Coho salmon have arrived into our waters, and in big numbers. We have been catching them off Bowen Island, offshore and around the west Vancouver shoreline in the last new days. Coho fishing is a lot of fun. We fish for them in the shallow water column close to the surface and as they come up the strikes are often explosive. You can also retain two hatchery Coho salmon per person per day, so while Chinook fishing is still closed for retention at the moment, coho salmon can be retained.

A happy guest who is visiting from Florida holds this beauty Chinook salmon. On this day we had strong winds, so we opted to head up Howe Sound where it was close to flat calm waters. The fishing was great!

The last few days we have been averaging 5-15 Coho even on our shorter 5-hour trips.

Guest visiting us from Calgary hooked and landed this good sized Chinook salmon off Bowen Island a few days ago.

For Coho, we have done well using white and chartreuse hootchies and silver flashers. For Chinook, we still find most bites on the anchovy rigs using a clear or chartreuse teaser head teamed up with a glow flasher like the BC flasher.

With the almost summer-like conditions in the forecast, it’s a great time to come out with us on the water and get the true west coast experience.
